About Spirit Thief Independent Bottlers:

While distillers make all the whisky, they're not responsible for every bottle on the shelf. There are a whole host of other companies who select casks and bottle whiskies – the independent bottlers. And some of the most famous and highly sought after whiskies globally have been bottled by independent bottlers. From casks that the distilleries can't release to those that they won't, the indies offer an alternative take on whisky, giving us the chance to try a huge range of different drams, a philosophy that Spirit Thief explores with every whisky they bottle.

At The Whisky List, we're huge fans of independent bottlers and Spirit Thief is definitely one you should add to your whisky shelf at home. Originally founded as a passion project by a few friends down in Tassie buying their own whisky casks from different distilleries, it quickly turned into its own brand when mates and neighbours from all places heard the news they were bottling unique and tasty whiskies using red-wine casks you traditionally don't see from many Aussie distilleries.  

Spirit Thief buys whisky casks from all over the world from some unique and interesting distilleries, and mature them in their bonded warehouse few minutes out of Hobart, Tasmania.

This limited edition series of Spirit Thief single malt whisky celebrates our exploration of some of the world’s rarest red wine matured whiskies from award-winning distinguished distilleries around the globe. From Scotland to New Zealand and across the seas to Tasmania, Spirit Thief have selected the distillery spirit and the barrels based on their flavour profiles and characteristics that we admire. Spirit Thief are charting a course for our future direction and have inspired us in the selection of our wine varietal casks from tempranillo to shiraz, mattaro to grenache and beyond.
