World Science Festival Brisbane is back from March 22 to April 2 for 12 days of weird, wacky but always wonderful experiences. Now in its eighth year, the 2023 edition will bring science to life with a huge roster of events that both little ones and grown ups alike can enjoy. You’ll be able to learn about dinosaurs from a palaeontologist’s perspective, watch loggerhead turtles hatching in their incubation chambers, test your knowledge at nerdy game shows and tune in to some of the country’s most knowledgeable academics.

To celebrate the return of this 12-day wonderland, The Weekend Edition has teamed up with our pals at World Science Festival Brisbane to offer one lucky reader the chance to wine the ultimate VIP festival experience.

The fun begins on Friday March 24, when you will check in to your two-bedroom apartment at Mantra South Bank Brisbane Hotel (located right in the heart of the festival), which will be your digs for the next two nights. The first stop on your weekend extravaganza will be at World Science Festival Brisbane’s newest night-time program, Social Science (18+). Queensland Museum will be transformed into a hub of live music, shows, comedy and of course, science. Guests will be able to join discussions exploring the science of sex or what good is the metaverse, watch artist Deb Mostert show off her skills or try their hand at the ultimate truth and dare with Counterpilot’s award-winning TRUTHMACHINE. Your tickets to Social Science also include entry to all of Queensland Museum’s exhibition spaces, SparkLab and the highly anticipated new Dinosaurs of Patagonia exhibition. On Saturday March 25 you’ll start your morning with complimentary breakfast at Mantra, which is included each day of your stay. Continuing your weekend of discovery is a visit to the sold-out The Hatchery, where you’ll get to catch a rare glimpse of loggerhead turtles hatching in their incubation chambers before they head off to the big blue! The next event on your itinerary is Night of The Nerds, the festival’s very own, very nerdy variety game show. Hosted by comedian Mark Humphries, the evening will see two all-star teams of scientists, tech heads and funny folk battle it out through a series of challenges and quizzes.

Closing the weekend of curios on Sunday March 26, you will join Brian Greene and Nobel Laureate John Mather (live from New York) at The Unfolding Cosmos: Revelations from the James Webb Space Telescope. Listen to other top scientists who are using the James Webb Space Telescope share their astonishing and boundary-pushing discoveries.
