Director Christopher Nolan, who reinvigorated the Batman franchise, portrays a complex world in Inception, a world where perceived reality doesn’t exist and there’s a blurred line between the conscious and the subconscious. Without giving too much of the plot away, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Dom Cobb, a skilled thief who enters the mind of others during sleep and steals information during the dreaming process. Cobb becomes an international fugitive and he hatches a plan to get back to perceived reality, from dreams within dreams. If this sounds complicated don’t let it detract. Nolan demands almost a surreal level of concentration from his audience and it’s one of the most complex espionage thrillers ever made, but it’s well worth it. Fantastic special effects, a brilliant lead performance by DiCaprio and standout performances by Joseph Gordon Levitt, Michael Caine, Marion Cottilard and Ellen Page make Inception a masterpiece.
