Ballet Revolución premieres its world tour in Australia in July 2011. It is an explosive fusion of Ballet, Contemporary dance and modern hip-hop from the undisputed home of dance, Cuba. It will be a raw, fresh, dynamic Cuban Cocktail of unbridled passion, pure energy and athletic skill.
The company arrived in Perth this week and are making the final touches before next week’s World premiere.
Featuring a Live All Star Cuban Band playing the hits from Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Santana, Ricky Martin, Chris Brown, Beyonce & many, many more.
Ballet Revolución will be Ballet unleashed as only the Cubans know how passion and ferocity are fundamental to Cuban dancers. They don’t just dance with the music they dance inside it and this is uniquely Cuban. This dynamism in Cuban dance inspired Producer Mark Brady and Jon Lee to create an exciting new dance event straight out of Havana and bring it to the world.
This is a unique opportunity to see some of the world’s most talented classical and contemporary dancers from the elite companies in Cuba perform way beyond their normal repertoires. Throughout the show, the performers demonstrate their phenomenal versatility, combining styles as diverse as classical ballet and hip hop. Ballet Revolución is a powerful blend of styles and genres set against a blend of sounds meshed with Cuban classics, modern Latin American and R&B hits by artists such as Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Santana, Ricky Martin, Usher, Chris Brown, Beyonce and many more.
It’s an Evolution of Ballet as much as a Revolution.
Ballet Revolución's choreography is a force of nature combining the styles of three choreographers to create an entire new work. In a time of dance where apathy is the flavour of the day, Ballet Revolución’s choreography is unapologetic in its visceral assault on the audience. Ballet Revolución will shake Cuban dance to its African, Spanish and Russian core.
“Cuba has always been a land for mixing cultures and is steeped in a rich history of afro-Cuban and folkloric music and dance which came from Africa many years ago and these are rhythms and steps that have been uniquely preserved in Cuban dance. The collaboration with Australian Choreographer, Aaron Cash has been great. There are always moves and styles that you can learn from each other and which challenge and extend your original ideas,” said Cuban Choreographer, Roclan Gonzalez.
“Mark Brady and Jon Lee have produced several shows out of Cuba over the last decade but Ballet Revolución is unlike anything else. The combination of Cuban classical and contemporary dancers is revolutionary. Dance is contaminated with the cross pollination of all forms of movement and this is exactly what we have in Ballet Revolución. Fusing styles allows the audience to experience a uniquely rich work and the dancers are challenged in new and creative ways,” said US based Australian Choreographer, Aaron Cash.
The dancers are musically soulful. Reeking of sensuality, which is a result of their African, Spanish and indigenous ancestry mixed with supreme technique due to years of Russian involvement in Cuba. These entire elements combine to make an explosive full-blooded engaging night at the Theatre.
