Photography competition

Share your museum moment and celebrate 20 years of the Australian National Maritime Museum...

As the museum looks back on the last 20 years, we invite you to delve into your own photographic archives and share your Maritime Museum memories with us.

Enter and you could win!

A selection of photographs will be profiled on the museum's Flickr page and in Signals the Australian National Maritime Museum's quarterly publication.

The competition will be open from 1 November 2011 - 14 February 2012.
Winners will be drawn on 14 March 2012.

Categories and prizes
1. Overall best photograph
PRIZE: Digital SLR Canon 5D MK11 camera, valued at $4,000

2. From your archives (photographs taken between 1991 - 2000)
PRIZE: $250 gift voucher to Teds Camera Store and a photographic session with the official museum photographer

3. New memories (photographs taken between 2000 - 2012)
PRIZE: $250 gift voucher to Teds Camera Store and a photographic session with the official museum photographer

The photographs will be judged on their photographic skills, interesting subject matter and uniqueness. The photographs will be assessed by a panel of three judges: Director of the museum, the museum photographer and an external judge.

How to enter

Image restrictions: JPEG files only, no larger than 2MB.

If you are unable to submit your entry via email, you can post your entry to the museum.

Postal entries must include:
1. Your photograph as a JPEG file saved on a CD or printed photograph (please do not submit original hardcopy photographs)
2. A completed entry form. Download the entry form.
3. Prepaid, self addressed envelope if you would like your entry returned.

20 years - Museum Moments photo competition
Terms and Conditions

1. Information on how to enter forms part of the terms of entry. Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.

2. Entry is open to all residents of Australia, except employees of the Promoter and their immediate families and agencies associated with this Promotion.

3. The competition commences on Tuesday 1 November 2011 at 5.00pm AEDT and concludes on Tuesday 14 February 2012 at 11:59pm AEDT.

4. The competition will be advertised at www.anmm.gov.au, social media, in the museum, and via handouts/marketing materials produced by the ANMM.

5. To enter the competition, participants can submit their photo/s via email or post directly to the museum. To submit their photo/s participants must:
a) Read and agree to these terms and conditions
b) Download and complete the entry form available on the competition website
c) Email their photograph/s and completed entry form to web@anmm.gov.au Image restrictions: JPEG files only, no larger than 2MB.
d) Understand that only one entry is allowed to each category of the competition per person.
e) If entrants are unable to submit their photograph via email, they may choose to send their photograph to the museum by post as a JPEG saved on a CD or a printed copy of the photograph, along with a completed entry form available on the museum website.

6. The Promoter reserves the right to request winners to provide proof of identity, proof of residency at the nominated prize delivery address and/or proof of entry validity in order to claim a prize. Proof of identification, residency and entry considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the Promoter. In the event that a winner cannot provide suitable proof, the winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.

7. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entry which, in the opinion of Promoter, includes objectionable content, profanity, potentially insulting, inflammatory or defamatory statements, disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process, who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms & Conditions of Entry or who has, in the opinion of Promoter, engaged in conduct in entering the Promotion which is fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the Promotion and/or Promoter. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify a winner if Promoter becomes aware that the winner and/or the winner’s entry is of a type described in this clause.

8. The competition categories and prizes include:
a) An overall major prize winner for best photograph: Digital SLR Canon 5D MK11 camera, valued at $4,000Last updated 1 November 2011
b) Best Photo taken between 1991 - 2000: $250 gift voucher to Teds Camera Store and a behind the scenes photographic session at the museum with the official museum photographer.
c) Best Photo taken between 2000 - 2012: $250 gift voucher to Teds Camera Store and a behind the scenes photographic session at the museum with the official museum photographer. The prizes will be delivered to the winners by courier to an address within Australia.

9. The Prize cannot be transferred and cannot be redeemed for cash.

10. Unless expressly stated in these terms and conditions all other expenses become the responsibility of the winner.

11. If the prize is unavailable, for whatever reason, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize for a prize of equal or greater value. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner may be required to sign a legal release in a form determined by the Promoter in its absolute discretion.

12. Once prizes have left the Promoter’s premises, the Promoter takes no responsibility for prizes damaged, delayed or lost in transit.

13. By accepting the prize, the winner agrees to participate in and co-operate as required with all reasonable media editorial requests relating to the prize, including but not limited to, being interviewed and photographed, filmed and/or chaperoned while using the prize.

14. Upon entering the competition, the participant grants the Promoter joint copyright and permission to use their submitted work to promote the competition and/or the museum in various forms of media in public spaces, the internet and printed publicationsand brochures, throughout the duration of the competition and after the competition has ceased, without incurring a fee. The Promoter will attribute the entrant wherever possible. The Promoter will not use the entrant’s work for commercial purposes, such as printing on demand and merchandise unless agreed to.

15. In the event that for any reason whatsoever a winner does not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by the Promoter then that element of the prize will be forfeited by the winner and cash will not be awarded in lieu of that element of the prize.

16. Prize values are based upon the recommended retail prices at the time of publication (inclusive of GST). The Promoter accepts no responsibility for change in prize value between now and the ultimate prize redemption date.

17. Independent financial advice should be sought as tax implications may arise as a result of accepting the prize. The Promoter is not responsible for any tax implications that may arise as a result of the winner accepting the prize.

18. Each valid entrant who has entered the competition over the duration of the promotional period will be entered into the competition.

19. This is a competition of skill and winners will be determined by a judging panel of three people. The judging panel may include the Director of the museum, the official Last updated 1 November 2011museum photographer and a third person from an external party. The judging will take place at the Australian National Maritime Museum on Wednesday 14 March 2012.

20. The winners will be notified within 7 days of the draw, via their contact details supplied with their entry.

21. Prizes will be awarded to the person named in the entry. However, in a dispute, will be awarded to the account holder of the entry mechanism used to submit their entry.

22. Should an entrant’s contact details change during the promotional period, it is the entrant's responsibility to notify the Promoter. A request to access or modify any information provided in an entry should be directed to Promoter.

23. Subject to any direction given under relevant State legislation, an unclaimed prize draw will take place at The Australian National Maritime Museum on the Friday 13 April 2012. The winner will be notified of their prize via their contact details supplied with their entry.

24. The Promoter’s decision is final and the Promoter will not enter into correspondence regarding the Competition result.

25. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner must comply with all the conditions of use of the prize and the prize supplier’s requirements.

26. In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the Promoter’s ability to proceed with the competition on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, the Promoter may in its absolute discretion cancel the competition and recommence it from the start on the same conditions.

27. The Promoter shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to direct, indirect or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with any prize/s except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

28. The Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these conditions, or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the promotion. The Promoter’s legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.

29. The Australian National Maritime Museum assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alteration of entries, and reserves the right to take any action that may be available.

30. If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any causes beyond the control of the Promoter, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Last updated 1 November 2011individual who tampers with the entry process, take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition, subject to any written direction given under State Regulation.

31. The Promoter collects personal information about you to enable you to participate in this promotion. The Promoter may use information it collects in relation to you to provide you with information regarding further offers, promotions or goods and services provided by the Promoter and/or the Promoter’s partners and sponsors. This includes adding your details to the Promoter’s electronic mailing databases.

32. The Australian National Maritime Museum is collecting the entrant's personal information for the purpose of conducting and promoting this competition (including but not limited to determining and notifying winner). If you are not willing for this to occur you cannot participate in the Promotion.
