A mixtape by Sarah Mary Chadwick

Sarah Mary Chadwick payed us a visit almost a year ago to the day with her band Batrider. This time around she's trimmed her sound and shed the band title to release her first solo record on Bedroom Suck. That's a perfect segue right there because old mate Bedroom Suck is co-curating Get-Happier Festival happening this weekend as part of 4ZZZ Radiothon. We've made our pledge, what about you buddy? Yeah, yeah we've all heard 4ZZZ nagging us for years on the radio but hey man, if you want a festival lineup with New War, Bitch Prefect and Holy Balm on it amongst others then you know whats you gots to do. And now back to Sarah to tell us about her mixtape.
Pip Proud and Alastair Galbraith - 'Hey Gus'
This song is on a 7". It's weird and fretting, disconcerting and oddly comforting, like neighbours fighting in muffled tones or people praying really loudly in the next room. The lyrics repeat in timed refrains, "Hey gus, is god REALLY made of love?". Such a beautiful sentiment that's not sentimental and is sharp and pure, the rambling froggy vocals are enchanting gibberish that make sense to the sane and sensitive.
Roy Orbison - 'Crying'
I love Roy. His story is so sad it makes me feel bad for even thinking I've got sadness to sing about. What a VOICE. The chord structure is so so simple, it sits on the same chord (kinda) for most of it, and the lyrics are painfully chokingly simple, but it's perfect.
She's playing Get-Happier Festival and launching her album on Bedroom Suck
Launch at Black Bear Lodge on Fri Aug 24 with Bitch Prefect and Holy Balm.
