Angry Young Man – a comedy hit … about immigration
The multi-award winning UK comedy, Angry Young Man, makes a welcome return to the Adelaide Fringe after a seven year absence. Produced by Mahwaff Theatre Co and presented by Holden Street Theatres, Angry Young Man has become an international comedy hit winning numerous 4 and 5 star reviews and breaking Edinburgh box-office records and taking over the West End from a hit season at Trafalgar Studios, London.
Written by award winning playwright and director Ben Woolf, Angry Young Man tells the story of Yuri, a brilliant Eastern European surgeon who arrives in London in search of work and a new life. Instead he meets Patrick, a young man offering help, friendship and a trip to the heart of the English countryside. But what they find there reveals some cold truths about England. And what Yuri discovers about Patrick forces him to choose between a life in Britain and his honour.
The show plays at The Studio, Holden Street Theatres, 34 Holden Street Hindmarsh from 12 February (previewing 12,13,14 Feb) through until 17 March. Check Fringe Guide and online for performance times. Duration 60 mins. Tickets are $16.50 (Preview) $18.60 concession to $26.90 Adults and available through Venuetix, FringeTIX or may be purchased at the door.
Following the Angry Young Man’s original Edinburgh season it embarked on a UK regional tour before returning to London to play a sold-out run at the Tristan Bates Theatre. In 2006 the show transferred to the Adelaide Fringe Festival as a co-production with the Holden Street Theatres where received 5-star reviews and sell-out houses, ultimately winning both The Advertiser’s Best Fringe Show Overall Award and the Fringe’s own Best Play Award. This tour planted the seed for the Holden Street Theatres Edinburgh Award and the rest is history.
