Set in Australia in 1949, Born to Fly by Mary Ann Napper is a fictionalised version of author’s personal experiences. In 1958, Mary’s 12-year-old twin brother who had autism was sent to live in Queensland with Cath McCarthy, a mothercraft nurse. Autism was unheard of at that time, with medical authorities failing to acknowledge McCarthy’s treatment methods.
Cath gave Mary a copy of her unpublished manuscript, The Life History Of An Autistic Child, based on a real case. As a result, Mary was inspired to write her own manuscript to commemorate McCarthy’s lifetime of work.

Twenty-five percent from all book sales will be donated to Autism Spectrum Australia.
