Written and directed by Penelope Spheeris (Wayne’s World) and available for the first time in a three volume boxed set, The Decline of Western Civilization Collection documents the city of Los Angeles from the perspective of three distinct scenes across the course of two decades, changing fashions, trends and styles.
The seminal first film charts the burgeoning punk scene from 1979-80 with bands Black Flag, X, Fear and The Germs. The often striking, hilarious and sobering second film The Metal Years looks at the decadent glam and hair metal scene on Sunset Strip 1986-88. The final scene examines the fall out that became the gutter punk and skate scene of the mid-90s.
