WHAT’S THE MOVIE ABOUT?

Reluctant to settle into retirement, travel writer Bill Bryson (played by Robert Redford) challenges himself to hike the legendary Appalachian Trail – considered to be a ‘super trail’ for hikers.

Understandably concerned about how her husband will fare on the grand trail most men half his age would not manage to complete, Bill’s wife (Emma Thompson) insists he find a travel companion. But the only person willing to take on the challenge is Bryson’s old high school buddy Katz (Nick Nolte); a wisecracking, larger-than-life personality who is out of shape and arguably out of his mind.

The unlikely pair fell out on a similar trek years earlier so will history repeat itself or will they form a bond stronger than ever? As the two very different men set off into the wilderness, they encounter an assortment of eccentric characters, wild animals and perilous weather in an epic journey that will test the limits of their friendship.
