Win one of 10 copies Australian Wine Vintages 2017 , valued at $34.95.

Written by Master of Wine Rob Geddes, it provides detailed tasting notes of over 3500 wines from Australian and New Zealand in print, and over 13,500 in the App.
Empowering wine buyers by demystifying the experience, Rob Geddes showcases the top 10 percent of Australian wineries that are proven consistent to drink, cellar and invest.

With more than 100 new wineries and 1000 new wines included in this edition, the book includes past vintage details for those who are cellaring or trading back vintages, as well as a guide to the various wine varieties and regions so you know what to look for.

The Gold Star list recognises the most consistent, high quality wines in Australia, with an annual list of the top 100 wines tasted.

ROB GEDDES’ TOP FIVE QUEENSLAND WINES OF THE YEAR – TASTING NOTES

• Witches Falls Wild Ferment 2013 Pinot Noir, $32, score 90, drink by 2018
This wine shows how talent and pinot thrives in unlikely places. Earthy, cooked raspberry, creamy caramel liquorice notes with a spicy edge. The palate shows mature fruit, plummy red tree fruit and caramel notes. Good tannin wed to the flavours will give it length as it firms.

• Symphony Hill 2014 Gewürztraminer, $35, score 96, drink by 2020
One of Australia’s truly remarkable wines, this has a rich and powerful lushness of varietal fresh roses, lychee and tropical fruit aromas. The palate is ripe, texture like a big chardonnay without the oak showing a creamy texture and very long, rich flavours of lychee and turkish delight. This is an ideal introduction if you have never had this variety before. Ideal with Thai or Indian spicy foods.

• Robert Channon 2015 Verdelho, $28, score 94, drink by 2019
Custard apple, caramel pie crust varietal marzipan meringue notes. The palate has oily weight, creamy well-knit full flavours and texture with the custard apple through to pineapple top notes. A very enjoyable, ripe glass of wine with power. Tropical fruit salad with a glace cherry on top.

• Golden Grove Vintage Grand Reserve 2012, Mourvèdre, $35, score 94, drink by 2020
A rich and complex aroma with a considerable intensity of blueberry, plums and dates with older oak notes. In the mouth smooth textured, very fine tannins, even length of full bodied ripe dark fruits, morello cherry and a long balanced weight of ripe fruits.

• Symphony Hill Reserve 2014 Shiraz, $30 score 93, drink by 2022
A fabulous shiraz made with great understanding, poise and balance. The dark plum, cola fruits are wed to warm butter and caramel oak with white pepper. Long, dynamic and elegant black fruit in the mouth with minerality from the balance of grainy tannins and acids that suits the wine.

Sydney-based Geddes has been immersed in every aspect of the wine industry for more than 30 years as an author, consultant, speaker, judge and educator, and is one of less than 20 Master of Wines in Australia today.

All of the wines featured in Australian Wine Vintages are tasted independently and objectively by a panel of expert Master of Wine recipients, sommeliers, major retail buyers and winemakers.

There are 10 copies of Australian Wine Vintages 2017, valued at $34.95 each, to be won.
