Lendlease’s King Street at the Brisbane Showgrounds, in collaboration with Creative Industries (CI) students from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), will launch a light-up art installation celebrating the Ekka’s iconic strawberry sundae on Wednesday 12 April 2017.
Brisbane Showgrounds project director Andrew Hay says the inspiration for the sign came from the nostalgia and family memories generated by the Ekka every year at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
“The CI students were asked to pitch innovative and creative projects to highlight the heritage of the Brisbane Showgrounds while creating excitement and interaction with the local community,” he says.
“Placing the nostalgic strawberry sundae sign at the end of the old Dairy Hall will definitely be a way for everyone to relive their experience with the strawberry sundae all year ’round.”
To celebrate the launch, King Street will host a strawberry sundae pop-up event for one night only, where they’ll be dishing up 250 freebies of the famous Ekka strawberry sundae.
But the event isn’t open to just anyone – only a limited number of double passes will be handed out to the public, and the only way to get them is by winning!
