In the wake of a year unlike any other, writing is an exceedingly powerful tool – it can educate, heal, provide escapism and straight-up lighten the mood in the darkest hours of our lives. Returning this year to delight the minds of people from all walks of life, Brisbane Writers Festival is a shining example of perseverance in the face of challenge. Taking over our fine city (and cyberspace) from May 7–9, the beloved literary celebration is bringing a host of the world’s brightest minds to share their works and words with us all – from the poignant perspectives of First Nations people through to raucous tales from famous authors, this year’s program will bring together more than 100 literary luminaries, thinkers and opinion makers to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
