RISING Dust is the 19th rural novel from Fleur McDonald and the fifth in the Detective  Dave Burrows rural suspense series. The idea for the new book came after the
author read a story about a boat that had washed up on an isolated beach with no
one aboard. "I then wondered what would have happened if this boat had also been
carrying drugs…… and then my mind went into overdrive thinking up plots and plans,"
she said. McDonald took a month-long trip in her campervan through the Pilbara and
Gascoyne region researching for the book. "Hanging out on station stays and talk-
ing to other campers really got my creative juices flowing." she said.
McDonald grew up in the small South Australian town or Orroroo and became a
jillaroo before spending 20 years farming east of Esperance.
