The City of Ryde has developed a draft Net Zero Emissions Pathway to further its commitment to reduce emissions, climate change impacts and plan for a sustainable future.
This plan recognises the steps Council has already undertaken to reduce emissions and outlines a strategy for achieving Net Zero emissions for both Council’s operations and the community.
This plan has been prepared in accordance with the NSW Government’s goal for Net Zero Emissions by 2050, the Greater Cities Commission’s North District Plan, City of Ryde’s Local Strategic Planning Statement and Council's climate emergency declaration.
WHAT DOES NET ZERO EMISSIONS MEAN?
Net Zero Emissions means that any emissions of greenhouse gases generated are balanced by the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. In practice this means reducing emissions as far as possible, then offsetting the remainder through activities such as tree planting, soil management, carbon capture and storage.
The draft Net Zero Emissions Pathway is on public exhibition until Wednesday 9 November 2022 for community review and comments.
