Ruby Gillman is our relatable and awkward hero. This year, DreamWorks Animation dives into the turbulent waters of high school with a hilarious, heartfelt action comedy about a shy teenager who discovers that she’s part of a legendary royal lineage of mythical sea krakens and that her destiny, in the depths of the oceans, is bigger than she ever dreamed.
We’ll position our film as aspirational to young girls with content that makes Ruby’s high school experience, teen struggles, and newfound Kraken powers relatable and exciting. We’ll play up family dynamics, friend groups, and Kraken superpowers to broaden the film to families with young children.
