Humphrey Law & Co. have been manufacturing socks at their factory in Heathmont, Melbourne for over 70 years. The company was founded back in 1947 by Sidney Humphrey and Albert Law. Albert Law’s children, Rob and Elizabeth now manage the business.
Accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia, Humphrey Law take great pride in that their production is transparent, ethical and legally compliant by ensuring workers are paid accordingly, and protected by Australian industrial legislation.
Humphrey Law have been supplying the Australian Defence Forces with their combat socks since 2013, and they are very happy with the supply and made for purpose sock that is manufactured for them based on the rigorous Defence testing and evaluation requirements.
Humphrey Law make socks for many different purposes using the best yarns. Australian Fine Merino wool, Alpaca from Italy and Peru; and Nylon and Mercerised Cotton from reputable suppliers.
These include the trade-marked Health Sock® with no tight elastic in the cuff.
To make a lightweight sock with Fine Merino and provide the softness, abrasion resistance and anti-pilling required for a quality sock, it’s necessary to use very high specification wool. The wool is obtained from selected bales grown in NSW. It is 19 micron fleece wool and selected for its high strength and long fibre length. This of course is the “top shelf” of the woolclip.
