Cartoon Darkness by Amyl and the Sniffers opens a bold and brilliant new chapter for the celebrated Australian punk quartet. Recorded at Foo Fighters' 606 Studio in Los Angeles with producer Nick Launay, these 13 tracks introduce fresh sounds and styles while keeping the band's signature intensity.
'Jerkin'' is an explosive and exhilarating start, while tracks like 'Big Dreams' bring more reflective energy. Acoustic guitars are played for the first time in the band's history on 'Bailing On Me', while 'U Should Not Be Doing That' is charged by disco-inspired beats. Blistering punk anthems alternate with more contemplative moments.
Thematically, the songs explore a range of topics—from personal relationships and self-worth to social issues like consumerism and the challenges of the digital age. In 'Chewing Gum,' Amy Taylor delivers a dialogue between her younger and present selves; a story of self-acceptance, growth, and resilience.
