Directed by Sean Baker, Anora has been widely regarded as the must-see film of 2024. Complex and tragically funny, it tells the compelling story of a young sex worker (Mikey Madison), who marries into wealth when she meets the son of a Russian oligarch (Mark Eidelstein). But when the news reaches Russia, her new life is threatened as her husband’s parents set out to break them apart.
Baker took home the coveted Palme d’Or prize at Cannes Film Festival for his work on the movie, as well as the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Screenplay. And with awards season just around the corner, there’s set to be plenty more accolades attached to Anora before long.
Anora is slated for release in Australia on December 26, 2024.
