AOTW Giveaway: Baxter Dury
Allbarone is the ninth studio album from UK indie provocateur Baxter Dury, out now on Heavenly Recordings / [PIAS].
The album was made in collaboration with UK super producer Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, The Horrors, Adele), after a chance meeting backstage at Glastonbury Festival, whose widescreen vision captures Dury at his most dance-forward.
Epworth has imbued the songs on Albarone with a shimmering pop sheen that acts as the perfect foil for Dury's deadpan tales of debauchery, excess and regret.
“It gets boring if you’re treading in the same sort of soil, the same kind of place, and you’re feeding the same people and the same thing, and it just personally becomes a chore to sort of try and be creative like that,” Dury recently told Far Out Magazine, capturing the restlessness that has defined his musical identity since the early 2000's.
Arriving at a time when he is craving re-invention, Allbarone showcases Dury at his caustic and cynical best, serendipitously finding the perfect partner in crime in Epworth, whose pop vision creates a duality not seen before in Dury's back catalogue.
