http://www.lastminute.com.au/destination-of-the-month/melbourne?cid=lmau_facebookIt may be winter, but there's never been a better time to visit Melbourne.
Not only is this your chance to rug up in your favourite coat and enjoy a lovely glass of Pinot, there are some seriously fantastic exhibitions and musicals that you won't want to miss.
The National Gallery of Victoria is currently playing host to European Masters: Städel Museum, 19th-20th Century, a remarkable collection of masterpieces that includes works by Picasso, Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh.
Down the road at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), the creative genius behind Edward Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland is explored in Tim Burton: The Exhibition, a collection of more than 700 paintings, drawings, puppets, costumes, storyboards and film direct from The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
Meanwhile, at the Melbourne Museum, Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition brings the grandeur, romance and tragedy of the Titanic's maiden voyage to life with detailed reconstructions, artefacts, remnants and personal stories of those on board.
Each of these incredible exhibitions is exclusive to Melbourne, meaning that this winter is your one and only chance to see them in Australia.
When you've had your fill of art and exhibitions, head to Her Majesty's Theatre and watch as the magical world of Mary Poppins comes to life in acclaimed producer Cameron Mackintosh's musical spectacular.
Melbourne in winter - don't miss it!
When planning a visit to Melbourne this winter, do something different and tack on a trip to the nearby Mornington Peninsula.
Bearing more than a passing resemblance to Europe, Mornington Peninsula is home to a coastline of olive groves, vineyards and sophisticated seaside villages. This is the place to experience some of Victoria's finest beaches, food and wine, and relax in Victoria's only naturally occurring hot springs.
