adelaide.win@rightanglestudio.com.auI love comedians and I go to different comedians when I need different things. When life is a bed of wriggly giggly puppies it's Aziz Ansari; for '90s nostalgic girl times it's Janeane Garafulo; feeling a bit psychedelic, it's Mitch Hedberg; and when I want someone to put my problems in perspective it's Louis CK. Comedians are my YouTube equivalent of therapy, with more gags.
One of the comedians closest to my heart is Bill Hicks. Bill Hicks is for the ugly truth and the tough love. I didn't discover him 'til I was 17 but being introduced to Bill Hicks in your teenage years is a total game-changer. He was dark, pissed off, pro drugs, anti employment, childbirth and authority in all its forms AND he was funny? He was like Teenage Jesus! The best thing is (like Seinfeld's) Hicks' jokes just get funnier and more true as you get older.
American: The Bill Hicks Story is the long overdue biopic that manages to act as a perfect primer for those unacquainted with Hicks while also indulging fans with heaps of never-before-seen footage, photos and fascinating interviews with his nearest and dearest (no celebrities rhapsodising about his influence thank gawd!).
PS: No Satan Cock Suckers or Freebird fans allowed.
