It’s time to unwind the fairy lights and break out the decorations with The West Australian and Channel Seven's Christmas Lights competition.
For your chance to win send us a picture or video of your house decorated in its Christmas finery. Entries must be in by midday Thursday, December 16, 2010.
From Saturday, December 18 until Thursday, December 23, the top five houses will be put to the vote in an online poll, with the house judged to be the best winning $2000. Terms and Conditions
1.
Instructions on how to enter, prize details and other information contained within the promotional advertisements form part of these terms and conditions. By participating, in this promotion entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

The promotion commences on Saturday, December 4, 2010 and closes midday on Thursday, December 16, 2010. Only entries received by this date and time will be valid and entries MUST be submitted via
http://www.thewest.com.au/christmaslights. Entrants must fill in all their contact details, upload their picture/video following the instructions and read and agree to the terms and conditions.

Subject to clause 18, entry is open to all residents of Western Australia over the age of 18. Winners under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when claiming and collecting their prize. Photographic identification may be required upon collection of the prize.4.
The photograph entered must be of the entrant’s own private property.
4.1
Entries must be contained within the entrant’s private property and not encroach onto public land nor onto neighbour’s property. The Promoter requests that entrants be mindful of neighbours and their quiet enjoyment of the street, and that they comply with all relevant laws in the creation and display of their entry, as well as with any reasonable direction given by the promoter, local council or police with respect to the display of their entry. NB: Breaching relevant laws in creation and display of an entry could lead to disqualification from the competition.
4.2
The misuse of electricity can cause injury or death. Entrants must not use any indoor lighting products outside and must comply with the safety instructions of all electrical products used. Electrical safety is paramount and must be exercised at all times. NB: misuse of electricity could lead to your disqualification from the competition. Inspections by qualified electricians to check the safety of the entrants display are encouraged.
4.3
Entrants must plan to ensure road safety of their display. For safety and security reasons the Promoter recommends that Christmas Light displays are designed to be removed and secured overnight. The security of all aspects of the displays is the sole responsibility of the entrant.
4.4
Ultimately, you as the home owner or resident are responsible for your display. We would recommend that people not be invited on to your property as that would considerably increase any potential risk you may have. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any actions or incidents relating to or occurring during the Christmas Lights promotion at or near the property of any individual entrant. It is advised that you ensure that your home insurance policy protects you in relation to anything you propose doing as part of your participation in the Christmas Lights.
5.
Photographs/videos submitted must be the entrant's own original work and must not have been published previously or been obtained from a secondary source. By submitting a photograph/video, an entrant grants West Australian Newspapers Limited, Channel Seven and its related entities a royalty-free, perpetual licence to use, reproduce, publish or display the photographs/videos and any stories on the entrants. This includes commercial purposes and may extend to or involve use by or with one or more third parties.

Photographs/videos submitted will be displayed on thewest.com.au and published in The West Australian and could be featured on Channel Seven News. West Australian Newspapers
Limited accepts no responsibility for materials submitted and advises that entries submitted will not be returned to entrants. The best entries will appear in The West Australian and thewest.com.au from Wednesday, December 6, 2010 to Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Channel Seven News will showcase houses entered in the competition from Monday, December 13 to Thursday, December 23, 2010.
7.
Only one entry per household will be accepted. The first entry received from each entrant will be considered their official entry.
8.
Christmas light displays that feature any corporate advertising material or messages will be disqualified from entry.
9.
There will be five finalists selected from all valid online entries received between Saturday, December 4, 2010 and midday Thursday, December 23, 2010. Entries will be judged daily and given a rating out of ten. Those entries with the highest ratings after the closing date will then be judged on visual impact, creativity and Christmas spirit and the top five selected as finalists. The judges decision is final and cannot be contested

These finalists will then be displayed in The West Australian and thewest.com.au from Saturday, December 18, 2010 to Thursday, December 23, 2010. Channel Seven News will feature some of the finalists over these dates. Readers and viewers will be directed to go to an online poll featuring the five finalists on thewest.com.au/christmaslights where they can vote for their favourite house. Each vote will translate into star ratings for each entrant and you cannot vote for the same entrant more than once. The finalist with the most votes at 10am on Thursday, December 23, 2010 will be deemed the winner. The decision is final and cannot be contested.

The winner will receive the following prize package: $2,000 from The West Australian.

All additional costs incurred will be at the expense of the winner.
13.
It will be the winner’s responsibility to redeem the prize from the promoter.
14.
The prize must be taken as supplied and is not transferable.
15.
In participating in the competition, entrants agree to participate and co-operate as required in all editorial activities relating to the competition, including but not limited to being interviewed and photographed and having their house filmed and photographed. The winner agrees to grant the Promoter a perpetual and exclusive licence to use such footage and photographs, as well as their actual entries (whether on DVD or photograph) in all media worldwide and the winner will not be entitled to any fee for such use. The winner agrees they will not, and will ensure that their companions do not, sell or otherwise provide their story and/or photographs to any media or other organisation.
16.
Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or the information on a website, or to otherwise undermine the legitimate operation of this competition, may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, whether successful or not, the promoter reserves the right to take whatever action it considers necessary against any person who is party to the said conduct.
17.
Employees of West Australian Newspapers Limited Group, Seven Network Limited, their associated agencies and immediate families, are ineligible to enter.
18.
All contestants release from, and indemnify West Australian Newspapers Limited and the Seven Network Limited, against, all liability, cost, loss or expense arising out of acceptance of
any prize(s) or participation in the competition including (but not limited to) loss of income, personal injury and damage to property and whether direct or consequential, foreseeable, due to some negligent act or omission or otherwise.
19.
West Australian Newspapers Limited Group, the Seven Network Limited and associated agencies accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, accident, death or injury resulting from the promotion.
20.
Entry into this competition signifies acceptance of all conditions. The Promoter’s decision will be final and cannot be contested. No correspondence will be entered into. The Promoter reserves the right to limit entry or amend rules if considered necessary without notice.
