Win a Double Pass to Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti at the Hi-Fi Melbourne on 10th February 2011.For the better part of a decade, Los Angeles native Ariel Pink has produced and played all of his own music producing some of the most stimulating music going around and is noted for creating drum sounds using primarily his mouth and sometimes his armpits.
This reclusive artist gradually gained international recognition for his self made albums, many of them have never been heard by fans. His music is signified by an incredibly murky lo-fi sound. Pink was first ‘unearthed’ by Animal Collective, who began releasing the vast volumes of his home recordings on their Paw Tracts label. By the end of the 2000’s, it was clear that the ‘Ariel Pink sound’ had an unexpected influence over indie music.
In 2008 Pink formed a new band with keyboardist/ guitarist/ backing vocalist Kenny Gilmore, drummer/ vocalist/ guitarist Jimi Hey now Aaron Sperske and guitarist Cole M. Greif-Neill who became known as Haunted Graffiti. No longer a solo venture, Haunted Graffiti is now a fully realised band comprising of Kenny Gilmore, Aaron Sperske and Tim Koh, all characters from the underground LA scene.
Consistent touring with a fixed band line-up has led to a much more accessible and musically tighter show for concert goers.
These California cool kids have gained some true ravingly mad fans and are known for performing original set lists, jumping from older material to new hits and back.
