Australia Day every year (the next draw deadline is 26 January 2011)
These prizes are picked from the Prize Box. Prizes all relate to the Australian bush and include such things as books by other authors, CDs/DVDs, Waltzing Matilda music boxes, leather items from Packsaddle Leather, Hema 'Australia's Outback' maps and packets of Christmas cards and Australian stockman greeting cards.
Some of the books in the prize box have been bought second-hand because they are no longer in print, i.e. no longer available new. Increasing rarity has actually made them more highly sought after, rather than less expensive to purchase, even though they are in used condition. The Prize Box books have all been purchased because they are especially interesting or well written, and I've come across them when looking for bush books for myself.
Some of the books in the prize box have also been personally signed by the authors.
How do you enter?
This competition is open to all direct book purchasers who have current contact details on file. Customers enter this particular prize draw by emailing me a couple of sentences, approximately,** explaining their thoughts on the book 'A Million Acre Masterpiece' (after they have received the book). ** Note that 'a couple of sentences' is only an approximation. Ultra-brief comments such as 'good' or 'nice', display no particular thought or effort on behalf of the writer and do not qualify the writer for entry in this prize draw. But there is no need to produce pages, either; just send your honest opinion in one or two thoughtful sentences or a paragraph. Please note, errors of spelling and grammar do not matter, it is the meaning of the words that is important.
Prize Draw Terms & Conditions
These competitions are open to everyone on the mailing list who has fulfilled the criteria specified and whose name and contact details are complete and current. If the winner cannot be contacted because their contact details are outdated or inaccurate then a replacement winner will be drawn within 7 days. This is because unfortunately I don’t have the administrative resources to track down people who have moved and not advised their altered contact details (in particular, postal address & email address). If your postal address and/or email address changes, let me know straight away - because if your newsletter is 'Returned to Sender' and I can't contact you by email, you can no longer be included in the prize draws.
Winners are contacted by email to confirm their delivery address details are correct, and if you have won a framed photograph, I will ask for a street delivery address (rather than a P.O. Box). And if your mailing address becomes outdated, I will try to email you to ask for your current postal address. So if you get a new email address please remember to let me know.
The winner’s name, nearest town/suburb and country (if not Australia) will be added to the ‘Prize Draws’ section of the website, as has been done for the previous competition winners listed below. If any winner has any objection to these basic details being publicly recorded they can be exempted, and initials used instead, but the winner must let me know as soon as they have been notified that they have won.
In each prize draw, only one entry per postal address or per household/business will be accepted. This means that 'referrals' from people who live at the same address, are not eligible for the 'Referrals' prize draw.
Though most prize entries for most prize draws close on Australia Day, the actual drawing of winners usually takes place in February, because it can take considerable administration time to ensure the mailing list is sufficiently up-to-date. But please note that all orders received & dispatched are precisely dated - so orders received after Australia Day are only included in the following year's prize draws. Details of the prize draw winners are not usually added to the ‘Prize Draws’ section of the website until some weeks afterwards, when the next batch of website updates are processed. So there may be a delay of some weeks in-between when a competition has been drawn and the prize sent to the winner, and when the details appear publicly on the website. Prize draw winners are notified straight away, by email
