Village Roadshow.

The Royal Wedding.

This  DVD is a release by the BBC with commentary by the acclaimed BBC newsreader Huw Edwards. Although I did watch the Royal wedding on the TV,  on this  particular coverage you get a lot of extra comments  and close ups.

I always enjoy  the pomp  and ceremony that seems to be a part of life in Britain, and of course, on  an event like a  Royal wedding it is a extra special performance by every one involved.

Also on this DVD is a 50 minute extra feature, about William and Kate’s  early years. There are views of William as a baby with his mother Princess  Diana,  which then leads into the  coverage of William and Kate’s years together, leading up to the engagement.

I  thoroughly enjoyed watching once again,  all the spectacle associated with this special event.

 Running time approx 2hrs and 50 mins.

 
Paper Giants

The Birth of Cleo Magazine.

It was 1972 when Ita Buttrose and Kerry Packer  decided to back their gut instincts and publish a magazine that would create a sensation in  Australian publishing history,

No one had ever talked about women’s issue’s before, let alone shown the naked male or female form in a magazine.

Sir Frank opposed the magazine and it was predicted to be a failure, whereas in fact, it became an overwhelming success.

I quite enjoyed watching this release, although I was left feeling that something was missing One didn’t really get to know Ita at all,  they only touched very briefly on her life outside of the workplace. But then,  Ita may not have wished her very private life to be opened up to the viewing world.

There is quite a bit of swearing in this DVD, likewise a few sex scenes that I thought were totally unnecessary as they didn’t   seem to relate to the main story at all.

They were probably popped in just to spice things up a bit .

I guess you could look on this screening, as a now distant part of our publishing history.

It screened on the ABC quite recently.


The Wiggles

I haven’t actually seen this release, but then  I think most parents and grandparents know the Wiggles  really well.  Wherever they appear in concert, the crowds of children are always excited, and sing along with the  Wiggles quite happily.  I  don’t know if Dorothy the Dinosaur   will appear on this DVD, likewise the little red car, but I sure all the  numbers will be  a great hit with the young ones.
