British director Rupert Sanders is best known for his cinematic commercials for companies such as Guinness, Absolut, Nike, Xbox and the Halo 3 video game but his first feature film, the hotly anticipated action adventure Snow White and The Huntsman, is likely to open the door to more Hollywood blockbusters.
The director deftly combines the use of special effects with his creative vision to bring to the screen a darkly dramatic but still magical retelling of the fairytale. Audiences should leave their Disneyesque impressions at the door. As Sanders describes it, “this is a big medieval, knights-in-shining- armour, tattered battle flags and arrows-in-the- neck” gritty adventure and Kristen Stewart is no meek and sweet Snow White – well, not after a beefy Chris Hemsworth (pictured above with Stewart), as the huntsman sent to kill her, teaches her to fight the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron) to regain control of the kingdom.
