The New Hamer Hall Opening Season will provide a rare opportunity to hear one of the great orchestras of the world, the Czech Philharmonic, in two exclusive Australian performances on 26 and 27 August. The orchestra will be conducted by its Chief Conductor Designate Jiri Belohlávek, currently Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and will feature soloists Josef Špacek (violin) and Jan Martiník (bass).

The first concert at 2pm Sunday 26 August will feature Smetana's overture to The Bartered Bride, Josef Suk's Fantasy in G minor led by brilliant young Czech violinist Josef Å pacek, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 in E flat major.

The repertoire for the second concert, at 8pm, Monday 27 August, includes Janácek's overture to From the House of the Dead, Bohuslav Martinu's Memorial to Lidice, soloist Jan Martinik in Antonin Dvorák's Biblical Songs and Dvorák's Symphony No. 6.
