Organised by the Melbourne International Film Festival Industry Programs Unit, the Adrian Wootton Talks Dickens series helps kick off Melbourne Celebrates Dickens season from August 17-26, a part of the global Dickens 2012 initiative, a celebration of the life and work of the legendary author marking the bicentenary of his birth.
And thanks to our friends at MIFF, we have two double passes to give away to one of the talks taking place - Dickens On Film - on Saturday, August 18. Liberally sprinkled with slides and film clips, this talk examines the legacy of Dickens' screen adaptations from 1898 to the present, and highlights Dickens as an innovator of narrative, character, subject and imagery - and shows how he influenced the creation of the cinematic medium itself. This session concludes with a special screening of Anthony Wall's documentary, Dickens on Film.
