It’s time to escape the winter chill and enjoy some warm, proud and passionate Russian cinematic hospitality! The biggest festival of Russian cinema outside of Russia today, the Russian Resurrection Film Festival will kick off on September 7 at Palace Centro, Brisbane. Going strong in its ninth consecutive year, the festival will then roll out to each capital city, showcasing the best of Russian culture in a variety of films ranging from comedies, dramas, thrillers, animations and much more.

Opening the festival for its Australian Premiere will be Alexey Andrianov’s gripping spy thriller, Spy (2012, Шпион). A historical film based on popular mystery writer Boris Akunin’s spy novel and set in a beautiful utopian Moscow in the lead up to World War II. The film focuses on a young man brought into the intelligence service and entrusted into an operation to capture the extremely dangerous Fascist spy known as Wasser. International audiences have relished in the film’s twists, comedy and suspense, and now the people of Brisbane will be given the opportunity from September 7 when it launches.
