After many years of waiting, Australian music fans have had their hopes rewarded, with the news that legendary genre-defying American band The Mavericks will perform their first ever concert on Aussie soil. The group will perform a one-off standing room only show at the Hi-Fi in Sydney.
“The fans have always understood us,” says lead singer Raul Malo. “We made them feel good – and that was something then, as now I think, people wanted. Life is so serious; even for a moment, let’s forget and enjoy!”
The Mavericks will take Sydney by storm on Friday August 23rd at the Hi-Fi before heading to Queensland to headline the Gympie Music Muster, one of Australia’s longest running and most respected country festivals, on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th.
Two decades have passed since their polyrhythmic brand of post-modern country has given the world “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down,” “What A Crying Shame,” and “Dance The Night Away.” The country-steeped garage band with a Cuban American lead singer that had emerged from Miami in 1989 with their sultry debut that was equal parts innocence, intensity, and vintage influences reunited in 2012 after an eight-year hiatus.
