Celebrating its 14th season, the Lavazza Italian Film Festival returns to Palace Cinemas this October, screening across 7 cities at 15 romantically indulgent Palace locations across Australia.
Undoubtedly the largest festival of Italian films outside Italy, don’t miss your chance to see the very finest in contemporary Italian cinema on the big screen in all its glory. Continuing its tradition of unveiling a ‘semplicemente superbo’ program, the festival will present an exceptional selection of features and documentaries showcasing the considerable talents of Italy’s internationally renowned film industry. The scope of the festival is a voyage throughout Italy, and even the world, plunging to the depths of emotion, and heights of delight, all through the eyes of Italy’s best directors.
Launching this year’s festival at Opening Night Galas nationally will be The Great Beauty (La grande bellezza) from writer/director Paolo Sorrentino (This Must Be the Place, Il Divo). With a career-defining performance from Toni Servillo, The Great Beauty was enthusiastically embraced by critics and audiences alike at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered in the Official Competition. Sorrentino has accomplished a five star homage to Rome – the Eternal City – and a high Italian masterpiece in the style of Rossellini and Fellini. From the grandeur of Rome’s most famous palaces, aqueducts and fountains to a secret garden locked away by key, The Great Beauty is a carnival of for the senses and a cinematic feast - at once delightful, nostalgic, and inspiring.
