Kill Your Darlings (ticket giveaway)

The troubled early days of poet Alan Ginsberg are the focus of a new biopic, Kill Your Darlings.

The film follows Ginsberg's fledgling days as an undergraduate student before he evolved into the wild-haired icon of the Beat Generation. Though perhaps miscast, Daniel Radcliffe puts in an excellent performance as Ginsberg, displaying a nuanced talent beyond his boy wizard days.

The real standout is Dane DeHann (Beyond the Pines) as Lucien Carr, Ginsberg's guide into a wider world beyond his loving, but cloistered, upbringing with his poet father (David Cross from Arrested Development) and mentally ill mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh). The frantic relationship between the two is deep and affecting.

Kill Your Darlings is in cinemas around Australia on December 5, and we have five double passes to give away thanks to Sony. To enter, send your name and address to giveaways@smithjournal.com.au
