Is there anything quite like a good show? Since the early days of civilisation, local communities have been uniting as singular social units, and in the process, have thrown together festivals to celebrate... well, uh, being a community, I suppose. Erm, anyway, this isn't a lecture in anthropology, it's your chance to win one of five double passes to the Royal Canberra Show! Jolly good show!
Just what does this year's show have to offer, anyway? How does a new, scary ride sound? Making its Canberra debut this month, the Avenger is not a ride for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. Two stories high, operating on three axes and controlled by two operators, every ride is certain to be unique and terrifying. Additionally, show favourites XXXL, No Limit, the Shockwave and Big Wheel are back in Sideshow Alley this year, among the two dozen rides and other attractions. And hey, don’t forget your showbags! Everyone loves a good showbag.
If you’re less of an adrenaline junkie, there’s plenty of free entertainment on the Main Arena and around the grounds. Petrolheads will enjoy the airborne freestyle motorcross show from Showtime FMX and the precision stunt driving from Holden vs. Ford and Isuzu Team D-MAX. Animal lovers will enjoy the Farmyard Nursery, the showjumping challenges and Feathered Friends, a new free flight bird show featuring exotic parrots and birds of prey. History buff? Stop by the Heritage Park and watch live demonstrations of the way things used to be made. The Show runs from Fri–Sun February 26–28 at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
For your chance to go to the Royal Canberra Show for free, all you have to do is email
allan@bmamag.com and tell us what your clown name would be! That is, the name you would give yourself if you dropped everything in your life to become a clown (hey, don't get any funny ideas now). Don't forget to tell us which day you'd like to go!
Email the editor with your name, phone number and address to see if you can pick up yourself a one of these.
