Sydney is set for a powerful season of new, short plays written and directed by women,
telling stories of women… and their journey to identity and independence.
Women’s Voices: Stories to Stage is the creation of Peach Productions and its artistic director Margaret Fitzgerald.
Five all-new Australian plays (with a cast of 20 talented actors, each with its own director) feature dramas & thrillers - from the fictional to the historical -
as well as a cheeky comedy… and each with its own distinct theme:
• the ‘invisibility’ of women over a certain age who find themselves on the street;
• a confrontation between a young woman and the father who left her years before;
• a playful comedy about ‘open marriage’ in middle age;
• the very human story of young Caroline Chisholm working to protect immigrant women arriving in Sydney in 1841;
• and the chilling, moving, true tale – and testimony - of Elizabeth Woolcock, hanged in 1873 for the murder of her husband.
Peach Productions features writers and directors from diverse backgrounds and produced the highly successful Women of Australia: Stories of Courage as part of Sydney Fringe 2018.
