Britten's War Requiem
14–15 April
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is joined by the MSO Chorus, Gondwana Voices and a stellar lineup of soloists for Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem – a moving pacifist commentary on the horrors of war.
Britten’s War Requiem was composed for the 1962 opening of a newly-built cathedral in Coventry, England – situated next to the ruins of its predecessor, obliterated during the Second World War.
With his unique harmonic voice, Britten’s beautiful and deeply sobering setting of text by WWI poet Wilfred Owen and the Latin Requiem provides direct pacifist commentary while also honouring and remembering the lives of those lost.
Prepare for one of the biggest, boldest MSO performances of the year!
