Win a double pass to The Survival of Kindness. A film by Rolf de Heer

In a cage on a trailer in the middle of the desert, BlackWoman is abandoned. But BlackWoman seems not ready to pass…she escapes, and walks through pestilence and persecution, from desert to canyon to mountain to city, on a quest that leads to a city, recapture and tragedy. BlackWoman, escaping once more, must find solace in her beginnings.

The latest feature from one of Australia’s leading filmmakers Rolf de Heer’s The Survival of Kindness, is set to tour the nation from April 20 with a series of Q&A screening events ahead of its May 4 national release.

The announcement comes just weeks following the film’s FIPRESCI AWARD win at the 73rd Berlinale, given by the international body of film critics. Reviews from Berlinale said:

‘First-time actress Mwajemi Hussein is riveting as an escapee trekking across a plague-ravaged wilderness in a magnificently parched, wordless parable.’ (Variety)

‘…think a deep-arthouse “Mad Max,” with its max turned all the way down to minimalism’ (Variety)

‘striking, thought provoking cinema’ (Screen International)

‘The Survival of Kindness lingers with you long after the credits roll’ (Collider)

De Heer and the already award-winning lead performer Mwajemi Hussein will tour nationally, giving audiences around the country the opportunity to engage in conversation about this meaningful film directly with its creators.

The national Q&A screening tour will commence with the opening night of Screenwave International Film Festival, before travelling on to screen at the Gold Coast International Film Festival and in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and Hobart.  Tickets on sale now.

Thursday 20 April – Coffs Harbour: Opening Night Screenwave International Film Festival

Friday 21 April – Sydney: Fantastic Film Festival, Randwick Ritz

Sunday 23 April – Gold Coast International Film Festival, HOTA

Monday 24 April – Canberra: ARC Cinema presented by the National Film & Sound Archive

Thursday 27 April – Perth: Luna Leederville

Sunday 30 April – Melbourne: Cinema Nova, Carlton

Tuesday 2 May – Adelaide: Piccadilly Cinemas

Thursday 4 May – Hobart: State Cinema

The Survival of Kindness will release in cinemas nationally on May 4, distributed by Umbrella Entertainment.

The Survival of Kindness introduces Mwajemi Hussein in the lead role of BlackWoman. Battling privilege and pestilence while not knowing if she’s alive or dead, BlackWoman finds skeletons and has her boots stolen.
