Roaming Travel Reporter and Creator
Location: Sydney-based (with travel opportunities)
Contract: 6-month contract.

This isn’t your traditional reporter role. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be part of something bold and new at Escape, a video-first position created for the next generation of travel storytellers. You’ll travel to destinations assigned by the editorial team and capture social-first, performance-driven video content that entertains, informs and inspires. We’re looking for creators who understand what hooks an audience, how to harness trends in creative, relevant ways, and how to tell compelling travel stories, sometimes in 15 seconds or less.
If you’ve got a passion for travel, a flair for creating shareable content, and the skills to turn ideas into algorithm-breaking videos, this is your moment. You’ll need an appetite for adventure, the confidence to create on the go, and the flexibility to pack your bags at a moment’s notice—we need someone who can be on the road whenever the story calls.
The Role
This isn’t just any role, it’s Australia’s Best Job, and it could be yours. We’re looking for a standout creator who’s as confident in front of the lens as they are behind it, with the creativity, instinct and technical skill to bring Escape’s travel content to life.
As our Roaming Travel Reporter and Creator, you’ll work closely with our Sydney-based team on local projects, while also travelling across Australia, and potentially overseas, to film and produce content for Escape’s digital channels. You’ll be responsible for end-to-end production: filming, editing, and publishing content that’s not only visually compelling but built to perform across web and social. Whether it’s a vertical reel that grabs attention in three seconds or a YouTube Short that showcases a destination’s must-dos, your videos will be optimised for reach, watch time and audience growth.
We want someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, knows how to speak the language of each platform, and has a strong editorial eye. Previous journalistic or reporting experience is a plus, but not essential, we’re after creativity, resourcefulness and real-world storytelling chops.

Key Responsibilities
Film, edit and publish video content across Escape’s verticals from: travel guides, hotel reviews, trends, cruise updates, and destination advice
Deliver engaging, audience-first content for escape.com.au and Escape’s social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook
Tailor each video to platform-specific best practices to maximise reach, retention and engagement
Collaborate with the digital director, social media editor and editorial team to pitch and execute creative video concepts aligned with Escape’s tone and brand
Maintain high production values and consistency across all formats and platforms
Stay across social and video trends, storytelling formats and performance analytics
Meet tight deadlines while producing polished, optimised content that stands out
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in end-to-end video production (filming, editing, post-production)
Proficiency with desktop editing tools (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro) and mobile editing apps (e.g. CapCut, InShot)
A proven track record of creating content that performs on social platforms, with an understanding of audience behaviour and algorithm dynamics
Strong storytelling ability, with an eye for translating editorial ideas into compelling visual narratives
Deep understanding of content formats, ratios, hooks, captions and platform-specific nuances
A passion for travel and a creative approach to uncovering new stories
Ability to work collaboratively with an editorial team while managing independent shoots
Adaptable, proactive, and confident creating content on the move
Full flexibility to travel at any time, both domestically and internationally, as required
