OzTunes is the Allans Music School Songwriting Competition – a great way to engage your students in original composition. It's really easy! Your students simply write their own songs, and then upload them to our website where the public can vote for their favourite song. By enlisting students and their families to vote, your school can rise to the top of the charts and win a Winner's Prize Pack valued at over $27,000 RRP*, a Runner's-Up Prize Pack valued at over $5,000 RRP*, a Third Prize Pack valued at over $4,000 RRP* or an Encouragement Award Pack valued at over $3,000 RRP*. And along the way, we'll also give away $100 in gift vouchers each month of the competition to the school with the most votes in each Division. That's $400 in vouchers to be won every month on top of the monster prize packs!
When does it start?
You can upload your songs NOW for the first month of voting in May. Monthly heats run until October.
How do people vote?
As songs are uploaded, the public can visit the Charts and Voting page to listen and cast their votes as many times as they like. Voters are required to Register in order to cast their vote.
How many songs can I enter?
So everyone gets a fair chance, there are four categories from Prep to Year 12 and any one school can only submit a maximum of 12 entries over the course of the Competition. You may choose to spread these entries out across the whole year, or select a particular month to enter a range of songs. Just remember after your 12 songs are submitted we will be unable to accept any more entries from your school, so be encouraging, but selective!
How do the prizes work?
At the end of each month, the song in each division which has polled the most votes will be awarded $100 in Allans Music vouchers (10 x $10 vouchers) to be used by the school as they see fit.
At the end of October, the 20 songs that have accumulated the most votes throughout the year from across all categories will be uploaded to the Voting Page. Throughout November voting will be open on these 20 songs for the OzTunes Grand Final. The single most popular song will win the enormous Instrument Winner's Prize Pack valued at over $27,000 for the school! There will also be a Runner’s-Up Prize Pack and a Third Prize Pack based on voting, and an Encouragement Award Prize Pack as selected by the staff of Allans Music.
Other stuff
From time to time during the Competition, Allans Music will open the voting on ALL songs uploaded to date, via the Archive Page so schools can encourage additional votes.
Songs must be original compositions, by a student, a group of students, a school band or a class. All genres will be accepted - Pop, Rock, Instrumental, Big Band, Childrens Songs, Folk, Classic, Piano Solo – any original music created by school students has a chance to win.

OzTUNES TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. The promoter of the Allans Music National Schools Song Competition OzTunes (the “Competition”) is Allans Music Group Australia Pty Ltd, ACN 117 052 936 (“Allans Music”) of 31-49 Eastern Road, South Melbourne, VIC 3205.
2. The Competition is a contest to find the most popular song composed and performed by students as voted on by the public.
3. The Competition is open to schools in Australia only.
4. Songs must be original compositions by a student or group of students. All genres of music are eligible to enter.
5. Song must be performed by a student, a group of students, a school band or a class.
6. All members of the group, band or class composing and recording the song must belong to the same school. The school will be the entrant to the Competition rather than the individual, group, band or class. A school may only submit a maximum of 12 entries during the Competition period.
7. Songs must be recorded in the school and uploaded in MP3 format between April – October 2010 (inclusive). If the song has not been recorded in MP3 format entrants can use the MP3 converter link on Allans Music’s Upload Page to convert it to MP3 format.
8. Teachers uploading songs must ensure there is no inappropriate content in any song that is uploaded and that the song otherwise complies with the Terms & Conditions of the Competition.
9. There are four categories. (i) Prep to Year 4; (ii) Years 5 & 6; (iii) Years 7 to 10; and (iv) Years 11 & 12.
10. Songs can only be uploaded to the competition by school teachers or Allans Music and must be uploaded in accordance with the process set out on the Allans Music website.
11. Once uploaded, entries will appear on the Voting Page until the end of the current calendar month, and also, from time to time, in the Archive Page.
12. Votes are cast by clicking on the “Vote Now” button to vote for a song. Voters can vote as many times as they like through the Challenge/Response Voting Mechanism. Voters must to be registered to vote.
13. The songs that poll the biggest number of votes in each category for the month will win the monthly prizes. There will be one prize per category for each month from May to October 2010. The monthly prizes are ten $10 Allans Music vouchers which will be sent to the school. The school can use these vouchers at its discretion to award to the students or to use for school instrument purchases. Goods purchased with these vouchers will be at either Allans Price if used by a student, or listed Allans Education Price if purchased with a school Purchase Order.
14. Allans reserves the right to open the voting on all songs, through the archive page, at any time during the year at its absolute discretion. Allans will communicate by email to all registered voters when these opportunities arise.
15. From 1 November 2010 to 30 November 2010, the Top 20 songs, over all categories, that have polled the most votes between April and October (the “Finalists”) will appear on the voting page. The school that has entered the song that polls the most votes in November 2010 wins the Winner's Prize Pack which will be an instrument pack valued at approximately $27,800 RRP*. (Please note that the prices displayed in Allans Music stores may be lower than the Recommended Retail Price.) The Runner’s-Up Prize Pack is valued at approximately $5,000 RRP* and the Third Prize Pack is valued at approximately $4,000 RRP*. Allans Music will also award an Encouragement Award Prize Pack valued at approximately $3,700 RRP* to one of the Top 20 songs. The winner of this award will be selected at the discretion of Allans Music, and no correspondence will be entered into.
16. Entrants consent to Allans Music using any contestant’s name, likeness, image and/or voice (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited time without remuneration for the purpose of promoting this competition (including any outcome) and promoting any products/services manufactured, distributed and/or supplied by Allans Music.
17. Allans Music reserves the right to verify all entries and to remove or disqualify any song from the Competition in its absolute discretion. Allans Music will do this, for example but without limitation, when it believes in its absolute discretion that a song contains inappropriate or offensive content or is not an original composition or performance by a student, group of students, school band or class or the entry otherwise breaches the Terms & Conditions of the Competition.
18. Allans Music cannot be held responsible for any interruption to services hosting the “OzTunes” website. Interruption to these services will be rectified as Allans Music Information Technology staff become aware of any such interruption. Votes attempted during such an interruption will not be considered once web services again become available.
19. The decision of Allans Music on all matters relating to the Competition is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
20. Allans Music reserves the right to amend the Terms & Conditions of the Competition or to suspend or end the Competition at any time.
21. By entering the Competition, each entrant acknowledges his/her understanding of, and agrees to comply with and abide by, each of these terms and conditions.
Privacy Information
Information about schools and individuals will be collected to enable the promoter to administer and promote this competition and its winners.
