MAJ MONOLOGUES COMPETITION 2012
Terms and Conditions
By entering the Maj Monologues Competition the author agrees to be bound by the following terms and conditions. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification.
1. Entry to the competition is open to all residents of Western Australia only – proof of residency may be required.
2. The competition commences at 9am on Wednesday 23 November, 2011 and closes at 5pm on Friday 2 March, 2012. No submissions will be accepted after 5pm on the closing date.
3. Up to eight finalists will be selected from all qualifying entries received. Finalists will be notified by telephone and their details confirmed.
4. For the purpose of this competition a monologue is defined as “a long, uninterrupted speech (in a narrative or dramatic context) in which one character speaks alone a piece written for theatrical presentation by an individual actor”. For example, poetry other than dramatic verse for a character would not be defined as a monologue. Pieces which include more than one separate character spoken by the same actor are also not a monologue (a character recounting a story involving other characters is acceptable).
5. Submissions must include one master copy and five identical copies. The master copy must have a cover sheet with all personal and contact information relevant to the author. The five additional copies must not contain any personal information about the author and must not have the authors name imbedded into the pages as headers or footers.
6. The five copies are to be stapled in the top left hand corner only. Do not bind, paperclip or place in covers or folders. Entries must be typed and submitted in hard copy form. No electronic or handwritten submissions will be accepted.
7. Entries received must be 8 to 10 minutes in duration – any submission that is shorter or longer than the specified period may be disqualified.
8. Entries must have minimal stage and technical requirements. The Producer and Director reserve the right to review the production requirements of the selected submissions in consultation with the authors and make alterations or suggestions.
9. The submission must adhere to the nominated topic – should the Producer or Judges deem a submission to have no relevance to the nominated topic it will be removed from the competition.
10. The submission must be an original work that has not been submitted to other competitions, published, or previously performed (in part or as a whole). This includes workshops and amateur or professional writing or dramatic publications, hard copy or online.
11. Submissions cannot be extracts of larger works, nor can they be parts of works already in development.
12. If at any point within the competition process the authenticity, originality or previous use of a submission is drawn into question the Producer reserves the right to remove the submission from the competition.
13. Should any information that may affect the eligibility of a submission be withheld knowingly or unknowingly, the Producer reserves the right to remove the submission from the competition.
14. Should the author be aware, or become aware of an issue that may affect their eligibility they must declare this immediately to the Producer. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
15. Monologues can be co-written as long as all authors are equally credited, that all authors meet all the necessary criteria, terms and conditions, and that all authors understand that any prize won will be evenly distributed between all parties.
16. Entries submitted under pseudonyms (recognised or not) will not be accepted. Should a submission reach the final list under a pseudonym, the author will be expected to reveal that information prior to moving forward in the competition. Should that information be knowingly withheld, the Producer reserves the right to withdraw the submission from the competition at any point.
17. The Producer is under no obligation to advise authors that their submission has been disqualified for non compliance.
18. Only one entry per author will be accepted.
19. Employees of AEG Ogden (Perth) Pty Ltd and members of their immediate families are ineligible to enter the competition.
20. All entries submitted remain the property of His Majesty’s Theatre and will not be returned to the author. Only copies of the final monologues will be kept for archival purposes – all other submissions will be destroyed.
21. Information and notification of the final chosen monologues will appear on the His Majesty’s Theatre website and will be part of various Media Releases. Prospective entrants are encouraged to monitor the website for updates. No feedback on the submissions is to be sought from the Producer or the Judges and none will be given post event.
22. The Producer’s and Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence shall be entered into.
23. The final monologues will be performed as part of a 5 night performance season on dates advised.
24. If chosen for the finals, the author agrees to be available for all reasonable publicity and promotional requirements. The author agrees to supply the Producers representatives with biographies, personal information and photographs where relevant, or be available for such photographs to be taken should they not have any. The author is responsible for all costs incurred in travelling to and from any publicity or promotional engagements and to attend and rehearsals or performances.
25. All casting, rehearsal times, production and performance decisions are at the discretion of the Director and the Producer.
26. The Producer is responsible for engagement, contracting and payment of the Director, and all actors involved in the performance season.
27. All finalists will be entitled to two (2) complimentary tickets to the final performance of the season when winners will be announced.
28. At the end of the performance season no further use of the final monologues can occur without express permission from the author. His Majesty’s Theatre acknowledges that copyright remains with the author at all times.
29. AEG Ogden (Perth) Pty Ltd accepts no responsibility for misrepresentation of any author of himself/herself, the authenticity of his or her work, and or the source of his or her work.
