Learner stories

Send in your video story and win!

To celebrate ALW 2012, we are giving adult learners the opportunity to share their learning successes and challenges. We are looking for inspirational adult learner stories from across the country, which we hope will encourage others to consider the many adult learning opportunities available to them.

Your video stories will be shared on the Adult Learners’ Week website, our YouTube channel and Facebook page. The best video story will win an Apple iPad. If you are interested in helping us tell Australian adult learning stories, please refer to the following guidelines. Download our adult consent form here. Closing date 31 August 2012.

Check out this example from New Zealand for inspiration.

Video stories competition
Our aim
Our video story competition aims to celebrate adult learning in our
communities.
Your challenge
Your challenge – should you choose to accept it – is to create a short video
(of no more than two minutes) that shows an adult learner sharing their
learning experiences in interview form.

Here are some guiding questions:
1. What do you like about being a learner?
2. What was your best achievement?
3. Do you think your life has changed because of learning?
4. What advice would you give to someone thinking about learning?
5. What do you like best about your learning provider?
Video formats and limitation
Here are some well-known formats that YouTube supports – .MPEG4, 3GPP,
MOV files and .AVI. A web video size limit of 20MB applies.
Competition conditions
All entries need to satisfy the following competition conditions.
§ There is no limit to the number of videos that an individual or provider can
submit but only videos that comply with the rules will be published.

§ Entries should divulge first name of learner only and name of provider.
(We will not share any private information with unauthorised person/s.)
§ Entry is free; however, a consent form must be submitted for any person
who is visually identifiable in the video. An adult consent form is
available for download on the ALW website. Videos submitted without the
necessary adult consent form will not be published.
§ Video content must be as described in the Your challenge section. All
content must be original.
§ Entries will be judged on how well and creatively this brief is carried out.
§ Any music or images used must be copyright free.
§ Entries should not exceed two minutes.
By entering the competition the entrants agree to abide by these terms and
conditions. Entrant retain copyright over their work but by providing a video,
entrants grant permission to Adult Learning Australia to reproduce the video
on any ALA websites as an example of adult learning.
Go for it, give it a tweet!
