Thanks for entering Lonely Planet's Visa Travel Companion promotion. Here's some important stuff you should know.
WHO'S RUNNING THE SHOW?
The promoter is Lonely Planet Publications Pty Limited (ABN 36 005 607 983) of 90 Maribyrnong Street, Footscray, Victoria 3011, Australia. Our friends at Visa AP (Australia Pty Ltd) (ABN 20 134 885 564) of Level 42, 50 Bridge Street, Sydney, NSW, 2000, Australia, and STA Travel (New Zealand) Ltd (company no. 296025) of Level 14, Telco Building, 16 Kingston Street, Auckland 1010, New Zealand are our promotional prize partners. Information about the prizes and how to enter forms part of these conditions of entry. By entering the promotion, these conditions of entry apply to your entry. Any changes to these conditions of entry will be published on the Lonely Planet website at www.lonelyplanet.com, so you should check these conditions of entry regularly.
CAN I PLAY?
This promotion is open only to legal residents of Australia and New Zealand, aged 18 years or older at the time of the promotion. Also, you can't enter this promotion if you (or your immediate families or housemates) are employed by Lonely Planet, Visa, STA Travel or their subsidiaries and affiliated companies.
HOW DO I PLAY?
To enter the promotion, you must do the following:
Go to www.lonelyplanet.com.au/campaigns/visa-travel-companion/create-your-own. On this page you will find a special tool we've created to let you create your own mini travel guide. Follow the instructions to create your own guide, then copy the guide's unique URL.
Go to the competition entry form (www.lonelyplanet.com.au/campaigns/visa-travel-companion/competition-video). Complete the entry form, and paste your guide's unique URL where indicated on the form.
Complete the entry form by submitting your favourite travel tip (in 35 words or less), and then hit "Enter competition".
You don't have to buy anything to enter. You can enter between 12am AEST on 3 July 2012 and 5pm AEDT on 5 November 2012. You can only enter once. Your entry is received at the time Lonely Planet receives it. If your entry gets lost in cyberspace or doesn't arrive for any other reason, that's not Lonely Planet's fault. Lonely Planet might have to extend the dates of the promotion, but only if it's totally unavoidable, and we'll let you know if we do.
HOW DO YOU PICK THE WINNERS?
Entries will be placed in one of two entry pools, depending on the entrant's country of residence (ie one pool of entries for Australian residents, one pool for New Zealand residents).
Throughout the promotion, we will award monthly prizes (in each pool) for the 5 best travel tips submitted during the relevant Judging Period (as set out in the Promotion Timeline below). The 5 best tips submitted during each Judging Period may also be published on www.lonelyplanet.com.au/campaigns/visa-travel-companion/video-competition. The winners in each Judging Period will have 10 days after notification within which to confirm eligibility and accept their prize. If a winner is ineligible, or does not accept their prize within that 10 day timeframe, then the next best tip submitted during that Judging Period will be declared the winner for that Judging Period.

At the conclusion of the promotion period (namely, 5 November 2012), all eligible entries will be collated into their respective pools, judged and an overall winner for each pool (namely, the best travel tip submitted in each pool) will be selected and awarded the Grand Prize.
Judging for the monthly prizes will be conducted by a panel of judges, comprising Lonely Planet staff. Judging for the Grand Prize will be done by an independent judge. Winning a monthly prize does not improve your chances of winning the Grand Prize.
This unenviable task will happen in a small, dark room at 90 Maribyrnong Street, Footscray, Victoria, 3011, Australia (or at an undisclosed location otherwise determined as required by Lonely Planet) on the dates specified in the Promotion Timeline.
The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Lady luck has nothing to do with this promotion.
Lonely Planet can cancel or modify the promotion if there are compelling technical or administrative reasons which we cannot control. If that happens, Lonely Planet will pick a winner from all eligible entries received at that time.
WHAT CAN I WIN?
Monthly prizes:
Australia residents: the winners from the Australian resident's prize pool for each Judging Period will receive a AU$100 Visa Prepaid card (provided by Visa). There will be 4 Judging Periods during the overall promotion period. Total prize value for all Judging Periods is AU$2000. The cards are issued by Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ). New Zealand residents: the winners from the New Zealand resident's prize pool for each Judging Period will receive a Prezzy Card to the value of NZ$100 (provided by Visa). There will be 4 Judging Periods during the overall promotion period. Total prize value for all Judging Periods is NZ$2000. Prezzy Cards are issued by New Zealand Post Limited. Grand Prize:
Australia residents: the Grand Prize winner from the Australian residents' prize pool will receive:
A reloadable Visa card, pre-loaded with AU$5,000 (provided by Visa). The card is issued by Heritage Bank Limited. The Product Disclosure Statement, together with terms and conditions of use, is available at http://mycanvascard.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/REV-Canvas-Card-160212.pdf; and
An STA Travel Gift Voucher to the value of AU$5,000 (provided by STA). The Voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, and the expiry date will be stated on you're the Voucher. The Voucher must be presented to your consultant upon redemption. Once the Voucher has expired, it cannot be redeemed. Treat your Voucher like cash. Lost or stolen Vouchers will not be replaced or refunded. Valid for redemption at any Australian STA Travel branch including National Contact Centre (134 STA). The Voucher is not redeemable online, is non-refundable, non-transferable, nor redeemable for cash. Not valid in conjunction with any other offer. New Zealand residents: the Grand Prize winner from the New Zealand residents' prize pool will receive:

An STA Travel Voucher to the value of NZ$5,000 (provided by STA). The voucher will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Any unused portion of the card will be forfeited at the end of the validity period. Lost or stolen vouchers will not be replaced. The voucher may be redeemed at any STA Travel branch, or STA's national contact centre (0800 474 400). The voucher is not redeemable online, and is not valid in conjunction with any other offer. . The total value of the Grand Prize for the New Zealand residents' entry pool is approximately NZ$10,000.
The total approximate retail value for all prizes in the promotion is AU$21,412.00.
IF YOU DO WIN…
You can't exchange the prize for cash, or ask us to give it to someone else (not that you'd want to!). We will use reasonable efforts to award the prize as described, but, if due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to do that, we'll substitute it either for cash or another prize of comparable value, but we'll decide which.
You'll be responsible for all taxes, and any other expenses, fees and costs connected with that prize that are not included in the prize description.
If, in order to take the prize, you're lucky enough to need a valid passport and/or other necessary travel documentation and visas, you'll need to sort those out for yourself (including finding out what documents you need).
You are responsible for your use of the prize, including complying with any applicable terms and conditions of use (including the terms set out in the Winner Deed document).
Of course, if you win a prize, you'll be good and comply with all relevant laws, rules and regulations.
HOW DO I FIND OUT IF I WON?
Monthly prize winners will be notified by email, on the dates set out in the Promotion Timeline. Lonely Planet will do its best to find the winner for each monthly prize. But if we can't find a winner, or if the winner hasn't accepted the prize within the timeframe set out in the Promotion Timeline, the next best entry for each relevant Judging Period will be declared the winner.
The Grand Prize winner will be notified by email and their names will be published on the Lonely Planet website within 2 days after selection. The Grand Prize winner will have 30 days within which to confirm their eligibility and accept their prize, failing which, the next best entry will be declared winner.
If you're riddled with curiosity as to who won the Grand Prize, send us a stamped, self addressed envelope (including the name of the promotion) to us within 3 months of the date of selection of the winner, and we'll write back and tell you who won.
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY ENTRY?
You agree that all of your entry is your own work. On submission, your entry becomes the property of Lonely Planet, and you give Lonely Planet a worldwide, irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish, adapt, communicate and broadcast all or part of it in any form and media, for the purposes of the Travel Companion promotion. You also consent to us editing, re-using, storing, reproducing and communicating your entry in any medium. Generally, we will attribute you as the author where possible, but in some circumstances, we may decide not to.
Lonely Planet gives you a non-exclusive, limited licence to use the special tool we've created to let you create your own mini travel guide (and any components within that tool, like fonts, images, text etc). Except for this limited licence, all intellectual property rights connected with the tool (and its constituent components) are retained completely by Lonely Planet.
Lonely Planet and its promotional prize partners will only use the personal information contained in your entry to conduct the promotion and award the prize (but if you've told Lonely Planet that you want to receive stuff from us and/or our promotional prize partners, we'll use your personal information for that too). If you win a prize, Lonely Planet and its promotional prize partners can use your name and photograph for future marketing purposes unless you tell us not to.
