If there’s one thing we like more than Two for One Tuesdays, it’s a good old-fashioned animal co-star. With five camels and a doggy BFF by the name of Diggity, Tracks starring Mia Wasikowska, more than fits the bill. Based on a true story, Tracks falls somewhere between inspirational Aussie flick Red Dog and the emotional roller coaster of our youth, Homeward Bound. But what really makes it stand out is the real-life protagonist and camel whisperer, Robyn Davidson.
In 1977 Robyn Davidson, former Sydney Push member and occasional lover to Salman Rushdie, took off from Alice Springs, vowing not to stop until she reached the ocean, a trip which took her and her camel entourage a total of nine months. Adam Driver (Girls, Frances Ha) also stars as National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan and John Curran (Praise, The Painted Veil) directs. Produced by Academy Award winners Emile Sherman and Iain Canning, Tracks is perfect for the adventurer who says ‘why not?’, when faced with the question of why.
