Please note: we’re giving away 150 Great Australian Beers not 150 great Australian beers. A book by Crafty Pint founder and regular Thirsty Thursday contributer James Smith rather than six-and-a-quarter slabs of the good stuff. It’s more of a teach-a-man-to-fish situation.

There’s a lot to learn. The book runs down beers by style – from light-bodied lagers through to high-alcohol imperial stouts and beyond. Each with tasting notes, serving suggestion, a food match and some genuinely insider information about the brews, breweries and brewers that make Australia’s beer scene so vibrant.

Unlike many of these sorts of lists it’s not excessively fixated on beer nerd style shibboleths like saisons, trippels and such: it’s as refreshingly unpretentious as the brews are unpretentiously refreshing, featuring breweries from CUB to our most micro of craft breweries. It’s also, unlike many of these anthologies, incredibly up to date, featuring brews like the Kaiju ‘Monster Mash’ Double IPA we wrote about a few scant months ago.
