West Australian Ballet will bring Marc Ribaud’s production of La Fille mal gardee to His Majesty’s Theatre (Perth) this September.
Internationally acclaimed choreographer Marc Ribaud has injected this classic story of young love and romantic high jinx with a deft touch of 1950s je ne sais quoi.
Lise and Colas are in love, but Lise’s mother has other ideas for her wayward daughter and plans to marry her off to the son of rich wine merchant, Alain. But Alain is more interested in his beloved umbrella than the pretty Lise. In a series of mischievous vignettes we follow Lise as she tries to work her way out of the betrothal and back into the arms of her love-struck beau.
The first of two co-productions with Li Cunxin’s Queensland Ballet, La Fille will also be presented by WAB at the Canberra Theatre Centre opening 15 October 2014, and later in 2016 presented by the Queensland Ballet.
