 Allegro Trio and Nick Parnell and his Vibes Virtuoso in concert at RPAC

THE Allegro Trio, comprises Birkkdale cellist Shaohua Chen-Merrett (centre), Vicky Hong (piano) and Hugh Won (violin).

BIRKDALE  cellist Shaohua Chen-Merrett, a founding member of the China National Women’s Chamber Orchestra, will perform at Redland Performing Arts Centre as part of an exciting double bill, Ivory and Steel.

Chen-Merrett is cellist for Allegro Trio, joining Vicky Hong (piano) and Hugh Won (violin).

They will present an evening of piano trio chamber music with works from the great masters, Haydn and Beethoven. The intricately crafted work by Beethoven’s teacher Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio No.29 will start their
concert. The program then showcases Beethoven’s Piano Trio No.7, the Archduke, displaying the pinnacle of piano trio as an art form.

After the interval Nick Parnell and his Vibes Virtuoso re-imagine music’s greatest ‘hits’ with his vibraphone and his mallets of steel.

Parnell makes old music new again, injecting energy into a repertoire that might be familiar to some, but definitely inspirational to all. Favourites from classic repertoire, including Gershwin’s Summertime, are re-interpreted for a vibrant listening experience – from the technically challenging to sheer lyrical beauty in the space of a heartbeat. Guest pianist is Julie Sargeant.
