WIN A JULIE WHITE STRAYA DAZE GIFT PACK

Inspired by memories of growing up in Australia in the ’80s and ’90s, Julie White‘s latest collection is more true blue than a Alf Stewart patting a koala with one hand and flipping off Colleen with the other.

Getting her textile cred officially at The Glasgow School of Art but having experimented with colour and fabric on her own since she was 14, White has stepped up in the brave pursuit of designing tasteful Australiana patterns. Her first apparel collection, Alter Native, made it possible – nay, fashionable – to wear head-to-toe native prints without looking like you’ve just ram-raided every tourist shop in Cairns (hallelujah), and her latest offering Straya Daze now turns that same design flair to top-quality silk scarves and kooky patterned socks in patterns like ‘Pavlova’, ‘Prawn Cocktail’, ‘Coral Reef’ and ‘Desert Disco’. “When someone says ‘Aussie’ I don’t think about beer, barbecues and bogans,” says White. “I think about interesting people, like Cate Blanchett or Meg Gray. I want to make fashion for females who are free thinkers.”
