AUSSIE hip hop group Thundamentals will make a return to Newcastle in a big way next month.
After selling out its Cambridge Hotel show in April, which group member Jesse Ferris, more popularly known as MC Jeswon, said was a "special moment", the Thundamentals will return to Newcastle for a New Year's Eve show that has a difference.
The Cambridge Hotel will host a street party on December 31 to bring in the new year.
Wood Street, which the hotel is located on the corner of, will be revamped and transformed into party central.
And what is a party without music?
The party will be headlined by Brisbane based indie pop rock legends Ball Park Music and will also feature the Thundamentals, Steve Smyth, The Soorleys and live DJ outfit Sleepers.
Ferris, who is currently working on his own projects as well as fresh music for the Thundamentals, said the street party sounded like a "pretty cool night out".
"I think it's going to be great," he said.
"I'll be interested to see what the set up will be like."

The Thundamentals, made up with the talents of Morgan Jones (DJ Morgs), Ferris, Brendan Tuckerman (MC Tuka) and Kevin Kerr (DJ Poncho), last performed in Newcastle as part of its Elephant in the Room tour.
"It was the first time we managed to sell out a show in Newcastle," Ferris said.
"It felt like a special moment; it felt like we had finally won over the hip hip music fans of Newcastle. There was great energy to the room, but Newcastle fans, whether you sell out a show or not, always bring a lot of enthusiasm."
Ferris expected the same reception to the New Year's Eve gig.
He also promised attendees to the show that they would receive the same kind of high energy, heartfelt performance that the group has become known for.
"I don't know what kind of set we will deliver on the night but what I can promise is what we always promise - that anyone who comes and checks us out can expect a very high energy, dynamic, sincere set," Ferris said.
"A lot of hip hop groups shy away from the real, emotional stuff and we've staked a claim on it, which I think people really connect with."
