OTHELLO: Ray Chong Nee plays Othello, coming to RPAC with Bell Shakespeare on October 8.


In a devastating exploration of the battle between love and jealousy, Peter Evans will direct the tragedy of Othello, touring nationally from July 2016.

The triumphant general Othello returns from battle with the gratitude of the state – and the love of Desdemona - who defies social convention and her father’s will to marry him. Jealousies around their match and Othello’s rise to prominence simmer to the surface, causing destructive rifts in a story that piles secret upon secret, and betrayal upon betrayal.

Othello’s ensign, Iago, harbours a deeply held resentment and his and Desdemona’s marriage is fatally undermined by the insinuations of a master manipulator.

Othello is a saga that probes the human capacity for petty jealousies and revenge while revelling in the sheer wickedness of malicious manipulations. Starring Ray Chong Nee as Othello (Bell Shakespeare’s The Dream and MTC’s I Call My Brothers) and Yalin Ozucelik as Iago (Bell Shakespeare’s Henry IV and STC’s Cyrano de Bergerac) in one of Shakespeare’s most captivating and implosive pairings.

Bell Shakespeare’s Othello will opened in July at Arts Centre Melbourne and tours to 27 centres nationally, including a performance at Redland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, October 8 at 7.30pm.  After their stunning production of Henry V in 2014, don’t miss Bell Shakespeare’s return to Redland Performing Arts Centre with one of Shakespeare’s most moving and passionate tragedies.

Tickets are adults $45, seniors/pensioners $42, students $28 and groups of 10 or more $35. There is also a special Shakespeare Package where tickets are $70 if you book Bell Shakespeare’s Othello and Shakespeare in the Park Twelfth Night at the same time.
