The brilliant Omar Sy shines in the heartwarming and emotional story of a revolutionary clown.
Omar Sy (The Intouchables, Samba, X-Men: Days of Future Past) stars in this French-language film, which is based on the life of Rafael Padilla — a former slave from Cuba, who became a performer in France during the Belle Epoque era.
Padilla was born in Cuba in 1868 and was sold into slavery at the age of 9, to a Portuguese merchant. After escaping slavery, he traveled to Paris and launched a career in the circus, captivating the French with his talents as a singer and dancer, and as a clown, working under the stage name ‘Chocolat’.

The unprecedented duo he forms with Footit (played by real-life circus performer James Thierrée, the grandson of the legendary Charlie Chaplin) is very popular with Parisian audiences, until easy money, gambling and discrimination take their toll on their friendship and Chocolat’s career.

The singular story of an exceptional artist, Monsieur Chocolat is in cinemas Thursday 29 June.

We’ve got 25 double passes to give away to a preview screening of Monsieur Chocolat at Palace Baracks Cinema on Wednesday 21 June at 6:30pm — enter now for your chance to win!

HOW TO ENTER: Entrants agree to receive future promotional offers from Bmag. This prize is not redeemable for cash and cannot be transferred. Competition closes 9am, Monday 12 June.
